A Call To Arms – Grassroots Ideas and Classroom Practice
There’s nothing wrong with Wordpress. There’s nothing wrong with Medium. There’s nothing wrong with Staffrm.io.
It’s me. I know it is and I know I can’t be alone. Most articles people are writing are irrelevant to me. A lot are Secondary focuses. Those that aren’t are often fairly abstract or opinion based.
There is nothing wrong with any of that. 95% of this post is opinion! But it’s not primarily what I’m interested in reading. I’ve finally pinned down what I think I’m missing that used to be there in abundance a few years ago:
Grassroots ideas and classroom practice
Innovation and day to day ideas that crop up in classrooms or are applied across school. I’m hoping your agreeing at this point.
- Twitter is so diluted due to its popularity that it’s difficult to find anything interesting or useful. Some people will understandably shout loudly (tweet lots) about a post in order to be heard or mainly keep an eye on a list (a few core educators they interact with) — my preference. But this can get cliquey.
- Wordpress blogs still plug away but they are not teaming with ideas. They also generally need a fair amount of shouting on Twitter to get noticed. They may get missed.
- Staffrm has a level playing field which I love but it’s still infrequent I find interesting articles and the ‘themes’ certainly don’t help me as they are very rarely about anything I’m particularly engaged by. It’s also like Twitter in that the more popular it gets, the more diluted it becomes.
- Medium is a great platform but its pretty much like watching tumbleweed as you can count on one hand the amount of UK Primary School teachers on there.
So here’s an idea for anyone who is on the same page I am…
Lets build something together. No egos. No cliques. Just Primary School educators who want a space to write and read about grassroots ideas and classroom practice.
